About

Chris Howard is a commercial real estate and tax incentive professional specializing in cost segregation and related tax strategies for real estate owners and investors.

Chris works with property owners, real estate investors, CPAs, tax professionals, brokers, wealth managers, and other advisors to identify opportunities to accelerate depreciation and improve the tax efficiency of real estate investments.

Prior to joining Kidder Mathews, Chris served as a Senior Account Executive with Cost Segregation Authority, where he advised clients throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas on cost segregation studies, Section 179D deductions, Section 45L tax credits and Section 1245 Exchanges. He has developed an extensive network of CPA firms, commercial real estate professionals, wealth managers and other referral partners.

Chris brings more than 20 years of consultative sales and business development experience to his role. Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with accounting, tax, legal, financial, and other professional-service organizations, including previous positions with Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg. His background allows him to work closely with both property owners and their professional advisors to help evaluate when cost segregation can provide a meaningful tax benefit.

Cost Segregation Experience

Chris has worked with cost segregation projects involving a broad range of real estate, including commercial buildings, multifamily properties, short-term rentals, and residential investment properties. His experience includes both newly acquired and existing properties where owners are seeking to capture previously unclaimed depreciation through a look-back cost segregation study.

He works closely with property owners and their tax advisors throughout the cost segregation process—from the initial evaluation of a property and estimated tax benefits through completion of the engineering-based study. His focus is on helping clients understand the potential benefits of cost segregation and determining when a study makes financial sense for their particular property and tax situation.
