Career Summary

Douglas joined GVAKM in 1987 and centers his attention upon the industrial markets of Tacoma ‑ Pierce and South ‑ King Counties.  Since starting his career in real estate in 1979, he has developed strong expertise marketing industrial and business parks, freestanding industrial property, tenant representation, land acquisition, and disposition of surplus properties.  A significant portion of his practice involves coordination of “build to suit” projects for manufacturing and distribution companies.  He has also focused upon redevelopment and conversion of older industrial properties. 

Major land development projects coordinated include The Park in Puyallup (191 acres), Sumner Industrial Park (123 acres), Fife Commerce Center (40 acres), the Fife Assemblage (167 acres), and the Pierce College Puyallup Campus (122 acres).  Industrial and business park representations have included the Valley Centre Corporate Park (1,084,374 square feet), Jenco Industrial Park (186,000 square feet), Puyallup Industrial Park (153,035 square feet), Lakewood/512 Business Park (129,456 square feet), and Evergreen Industrial Park (49,000 square feet).

Prior to joining GVAKM in 1987, Douglas spent four years as a Designated Broker/Branch Manager of Norris, Beggs & Simpson's Tacoma office and two years with Canaan Donoghue, Inc., a Seattle-based industrial brokerage company.  Douglas served as Branch Manager of the Tacoma office from the 1992 opening to 1997, and is currently a Vice President of the firm.

Professional/Civic Associations

Dave is active in several professional and community organizations.  An “Active Industrial” designee of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) he is Chair of the Membership Standards Committee.  He has served SIOR as Regional Vice President, and as a member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and Nominating Committees of SIOR.  He is Past Washington State Chapter President.  Douglas is active in the local chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) and is a designee of the Commercial, Investment Real Estate Institute (CCIM).

Community involvement includes the Tacoma – Pierce County Chamber of Commerce (Executive Committee as Vice Chair, Business & Trade Development Group, and Port Industrial Committee Chair), the Washington State Department of Transportation SR-167 Corridor Study Citizens Advisory Group, Tacoma Tideflats Fugitive Dust Control Study, Rotary Club of Tacoma, Lakewold Gardens Board of Directors, Tacoma Art Museum (Past President, Activities Council, Co-chair Community Development Campaign), Tacoma Area Coalition of Individuals with Disabilities Corporate Advisory Board, St. Patrick’s Parish Pastoral Council, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts (12 years as Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Den Leader), and has coached youth league basketball and baseball for 7 years.
