Project Outline
Recreational
Equipment, Inc. (REI), a national retail cooperative providing
quality outdoor gear and clothing, was evaluating their position in the Seattle
market to maximize exposure and increase sales. They selected Susan
Zimmerman and Pat Lindsey of GVA Kidder Mathews to assist them in
their efforts.

REI’s desire to increase visibility
and exposure was key in selecting their new store locations. Susan
and Pat initially relocated their east Bellevue store to Redmond
where REI purchased the land and built a flagship store. Most
recently, REI targeted Tacoma and Southcenter as new markets and
with Susan and Pat’s help, they opened high profile stores near the
regional malls. As a result, the Federal Way store (between these
two markets) was closed. REI also worked with Susan and Pat in
negotiating a new lease for a store next to Nordstrom in the
Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood (currently under construction). REI has
listed their existing store in Lynnwood for sale with Susan and Pat
to free up capital for additional expansion opportunities.
