I had the pleasure of working with Carla Scimemi on a few, substantial, and complex lease transactions for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), on behalf of The Regents of the University of California.

The University of California has specific organizational processes and systems which are intricate and unique. The organization protocol within the University poses challenges to counterparts in the commercial sector. It takes a very savvy professional that encompasses a depth of understanding to coordinate lease transactions between the corporate sector and the University.

For several years Carla Scimemi has successfully brokered on the Landlord's behalf commercial space UCSF selected to lease in the County of San Francisco. As an early stage company in need of new office space for our growing business we didn't have the resources to become experts in the commercial real-estate market. We took some of the basic steps of looking through Craigslist.com and other commercial real-estate listings, but it was all very hit or miss. We wasted a lot of time visiting inappropriate sites given our lack of experience with real-estate jargon or our understanding of what to expect from the descriptions provided.

During our search for space, we ran into Young Song and Carla Scimemi of GVA Kidder Mathews and they quickly understood the essence of what we were looking for. Even more valuable however, was having them by our side through the offer and negotiation phase with the property owner, helping us make sure that the lease agreement we were considering protected our interests at least as much as the landlord's.
