The former Sports Authority site at Arden Way and Watt Avenue will get another tenant with fitness as a selling point.
California Family Fitness has signed a lease to occupy the 38,000-square-foot space at 3350 Arden Way. The gym will be in a shopping center on the southwest corner of Arden and Watt.
Rick Martinez, a senior vice president with CBRE Sacramento who brokered the lease on behalf of the landlord, said California Family Fitness is also leasing a neighboring 3,300-square-foot shop space. That space will become a day care center for gym members who are bringing along a child or two, Martinez said.
Sports Authority closed in that location last summer. With the lease, the shopping center is fully occupied, he said. Safeway and CVS are the other two anchors for the center, which also has a Dollar Tree, Big 5 Sporting Goods and Quick Quack Car Wash. Martinez said he represented landlord Calfox Inc. in the deal, while Bryan Wirt of Kidder Mathews represented California Family Fitness.
Martinez said the gym, which will likely open in late winter 2018, won’t be the only new addition to the center.
Safeway is finalizing plans for a long-term ground lease to build a store-branded gas station along the western edge of the retail center, he said.
Orangevale-based California Family Fitness has 19 other health clubs in the Sacramento area.
