Three Former Cushman & Wakefield Brokers Join Former Voit Real Estate Exec Mark Read Who was Named Managing Director of New Office.

Making good on its plans to expand beyond its Pacific Northwest stronghold, Kidder Mathews entered the San Diego market with the hiring of four brokers and the opening of an office in Del Mar Heights.

Mark Read has joined the firm as the managing partner for the San Diego office. A former senior managing director for CBRE, Read was most recently an executive managing director for Voit Real Estate Services, overseeing the firm's offices in Orange County, Inland Empire and Los Angeles.

The three other brokers who have signed on with Kidder Mathews in San Diego were all formerly with Cushman & Wakefield: Ron King, who specializes in industrial and R&D sales, leasing and land sales in San Diego's North County; Joe McDermott, who specializes in industrial properties; and Robert Willingham, who focuses on industrial and office real estate in San Diego's North County. All were named senior vice presidents.

Kidder Mathews said its "streamlined and efficient management structure" and the availability of commission splits that are 20 percent or more favorable than other firms helps it compete for brokerage talent against larger firms.

The Seattle-based Kidder Mathews has more than 450 real estate professionals and staff in 10 offices, primarily in Washington, Oregon and northern California. The firm said its long-term growth plan includes expanding in California by opening offices in San Diego and the East Bay this year. It also plans to further expand in northern and southern California markets through partnerships with its existing offices in San Francisco, Redwood Shores and Silicon Valley.

"We see a tremendous opportunity to expand our commercial brokerage footprint in California, and these individuals represent just the type of quality, seasoned professionals and respected business and industry leaders that will help us be successful," said Jeff Lyon, CEO of Kidder Mathews, in a statement announcing the new hires, adding that the firm currently manages 800,000 square feet of biotech space in La Jolla.

The opening of the San Diego office is the first since Kidder Mathews hired Jim Bowles as president of its Brokerage Services Division late last year. Bowles, who started in his new role this month, will oversee the planned expansion of the company's commercial brokerage business.

Bowles has held senior management positions with Colliers International, Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE.

"Kidder Mathews is unique within the industry," said Bowles. "Its business model and entrepreneurial culture has attracted the most talented and successful brokers since its founding 40 years ago. I look forward to working closely with the team to continue the company's strong growth."
